8 weeks

Well, we are 8 weeks old! We went to the doctor on Friday and got a great report. Emily is now 23 1/4 inches long (59 cm for my Russian metric-thinking friends and family) and weighs 12.3 lbs (5.5 kg)

She is in the 75 percentile for both height and weight, which is how she was when she was born, so the doctor thinks she will stay that way. She did great at the doctor, and although she got 2 shots - one in each chubby thigh - and another vaccine by mouth, she did not cry much and behaved great.

Emily relaxing at home before going to the doctor.

The George Girls in our back yard.

Emily's Mom with her Starbucks coffee in front of a very California looking house....since we go to CA on vacation every year and are missing out this year, I had to get my Cali pic in Texas!! Beautiful home, isn't it?

I got Emily this sunshine toy at Kohl's. It plays "You are my Sunshine" when you pull on the little bug. Steve attached it to the ceiling in Emily's room. She loves looking at it when being changed. It also lights up!

Mobile

Emily and her Rainforest Mobile - she loves the animals and "talks" to them a lot! She'll kind of raise her voice at them when they stop (the mobile stops after a while) as if to tell them to get moving again, it's really cute!

Morning Walk

Emily goes for a walk in her stroller around the neighborhood.

These socks say "Future Princess" - we got them from my friend Ana :)
Just had to take a picture of that - SO TRUE, too!!

First Day Without Daddy

Emily's Dad left on his first major out of town job today - he will be gone 12 days and 12 nights! I was a little apprehensive about being able to handle everything myself, so Steve's parents volunteered to help.  Steve's Mom will be spending nights with me, which is wonderful and I am so grateful!!  Steve's Dad came today also, and spent some good quality time with Emmie - here is a picture of Grandad singing Emily a song!

08/08/08 - 5 weeks old

Emily is 5 weeks old today.  Some notable achievements:
1. She has a longer attention span and loves different sounds and textures
2. She smiled for the first time at Mommy, then Daddy, then Granmom
3. She can briefly grab and hold something in her hand
4. She recognizes familiar voices and follows people with her eyes
And, last night, Emily slept for 5.5 hours in one stretch for the first time!  Needless to say, that made Mom and Dad very happy.
Here are a couple of pics with Mommy.

Binkie Time

Emily does not use her binkie that much, but here are a couple of cute pics with it: one where Emmie is actually holding it with her hand (she loves doing that, and somehow, in this picture, we lost one of our mittens!) and the other in the car seat.  This car seat is a gift from Emily's aunt Karen and her family, and it lives in Mommy's car.  Mommy and Emily ventured out to Kohl's this afternoon for about 20 minutes :) so we used Mommy's car and the pink car seat.  Em fell asleep as soon as the car started driving!

Emily Meets Grandad!!

Yesterday Emily was finally able to meet her Grandad.  He has been sick and were we being overly cautious, not letting any "germs" around baby girl, but yesterday the doctor gave Dad the ok and he came over!  Emily loved being held by Grandad and enjoyed hearing a new voice and seeing a new face.

Granmom spent most of the day with us, helping me with household things, as well as caring for Emily.  It was so wonderful to have the help and emotional support when I needed it.  Mom did such a great job with Emily!!  She helped make it a very good day!

Today, Emmie is officially 4 weeks old!  If I have time later in the day, I will take some more pictures.  Cousin Allison is coming today to spend time with Emily and help.  We love cousin Allison, so if we have a picture opportunity, we will take advantage of it!
